Apple finally lets you see your Wi-Fi network’s password in iOS 16

Apple Event

Anytime you connect to a Wi-Fi network on your iPhone, the password is saved onto your device so that the next time you’re in the vicinity, you’ll be automatically connected to the internet. Yet there’s no way to go into your settings and view these saved network passwords, which would be useful for sharing with someone else who wants to connect to Wi-Fi and doesn’t know the password.

Thanks to iOS 16, you’ll finally be able to view and share all your saved Wi-Fi network passwords on your iPhone.

The iOS 16 update includes a range of quality of life improvements…

that make using an iPhone a more enjoyable experience, and one of those tiny improvements is access to the password for the WiFi network that you’re currently connected to.

If you own an iPhone then you know of the struggle to share Wi-Fi passwords when a family member or friend visits and they’re a green bubble aficionado (Android user) or they own a Windows laptop. Even though your phone is connected to the network, you still have to search around for the Wi-Fi password at the back of the router or on that old crusty piece of paper where you shouldn’t be storing passwords anyway. Gone are the days of this familiar struggle once iOS 16 arrives.

You will find the new Settings in the WiFi section of the Settings app. Simply tap on the network that you are connected to, you and you will find the new “password option. Tapping the new option would reveal your WiFi password followed by authentication using Face ID, Touch ID, or a passcode.

This is a pretty nifty addition if you want to share the password with a family member or friend. We will be covering new iOS 16 features in extensive detail, so be sure to stick around.

How to view a saved Wi-Fi password on iOS 16

For this to work, you must be either connected to the Wi-Fi network or have connected to it in the past and be near enough to the router for the network to appear in your settings. If you meet these requirements, launch the Settings application on your iPhone running iOS 16 and do the following:

1. Go to Wi-Fi.

2. Find the Wi-Fi network you want the password for and tap on the blue information icon to the right of the network name.

3. Tap on Password and use Face ID, Touch ID or enter your passcode to view the password.

4. Finally, hit Copy to save the password to your clipboard.
