Instagram has now introduced a new Subscribers program to its platform, where it will charge users for exclusive content by creators. Instagram head Adam Mosseri took it to Twitter to make this announcement. Under this program, creators will have a choice to make their followers pay for their exclusive Reels and posts on the platform. The fee will be charged on a monthly basis.

Earlier this year Instagram started testing ‘Subscriptions’ for creators. Now a tweet by Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram revealed that creators using Instagram Subscriptions will be able to lock reels and posts behind a paywall for subscribers. Besides this, creators can also directly chat with subscribers.
This is a part of Instagram’s efforts to help creators earn a stable income, said Adam Mosseri, Head of Instagram.

User-to-User Chats

The tool will let users engage with their favorite creators, as its name suggests.

Up to 30 people can participate in the chat and discuss topics that are important to them. According to Instagram, Subscriber talks, which are run by Messenger, may be started right from your inbox or story and terminate on their own after 24 hours.

A new “join conversation” button that is attached to a story allows subscribers to join chats.

A dedicated tab for managing discussions and the inbox appear to be coming to Instagram DM as well.

Instagram adds features to its subscription model

Initially, creators could post subscriber-only stories and perform subscriber-only live streams. Furthermore, subscribers are given special badges when they pay for a creator. Going forward, Instagram subscriptions will be updated with more features including Subscriber chats, Subscriber reels, Subscriber posts, and Subscribers’ home. These additions were announced by Mosseri through a tweet on July 14, 2022.

In other words, creators can now push more content for their subscribers than ever before. They will be able to publish exclusive posts and stories for their subscribers, which will make it easier for them to justify the subscription price. Further, Subscriber-only chats will allow up to 30 people to talk to the creator. The chats will be available for 24 hours only. Last but not least, there will be a Subscriber Home tab that will let subscribers view all the exclusive posts and content from their favorite creators in one place. The features will help creators add more subscribers and in the process, increase their earnings.
