Hardware and Design

Hardware: ★★★★¼

Micromax A100 sports 5 inch display which big screen lovers would definitely love. It is simple TFT capacitive LCD display with 480×854 resolution. It is powered by 1GHz single core processor and 512MB RAM. There are no physical buttons present at the bottom and you will have touch buttons within the screen at the bottom. Power button lies on the right hand side and on the top you will find 3.5mm Audio jack. On the left, you have the volume rocker and at the bottom you will find micro USB port. On the back side of Micromax A100 lies 5MP camera with LED flash, speakers and Micromax logo. Back panel of the device is rubberized and very soft. Moving on to the internet and connectivity, you will find WiFi, 3G and GPS present in the device. Touch response of the screen is damn good.

Software

Software: ★★★★☆

Micromax A100 runs on Android 4.0.4 ice cream sandwich and it has been promised to get Android 4.1 jelly bean sometime in last quarter of this year. As always, number of applications like Mibuddy, WhatsApp etc are pre-installed on this device. It looks like Micromax has decided some standard set of applications. There are not much customization in the Android framework. There are no changes in lockscreen either. Sliding down the top/task bar will give you the options to control the brightness of the display and toggle number of basic settings like airplane mode, GPS and vibrate mode. Internet browser that you find on this device is default one and performs the rendering of pages very quickly. Pinching and zooming is quite simple, fast and responsive. Off course, with Android 4.0.4 on-board, you can also install Chrome for Android.

Camera

Camera: ★★★★☆

Micromax A100 comes up with the 5MP primary camera which is accompanied by LED flash. The camera of the device captures your moments incredibly well. Quality is quite satisfying. 0.3MP front facing camera can be used for video calling with the 3rd party apps like Skype etc.

Battery

Battery: ★★★★☆

2000mAh battery seems quite big but it is not. The main reason is the display/screen size which minimizes the battery backup. You can expect about 5 to 5.5 hours of battery on 2G and 180 hours on standby.

Others

Micromax A100 has 4GB of internal memory and it is expandable up to 32GB via Micro SD card.

Pros

  • Bigger Screen
  • 4GB internal memory
  • Budget smartphone with good quality

Cons

  • Bit low volume on speakers.
  • No physical buttons

Conclusion

It’s a good phone to go far considering the price factor and features. Cons won’t really make any big issues. You can buy Micromax A100 for just Rs 9790. It is one of the best device in this price range.

  2. Am not getting it is the dual core processor or single core processor……

  3. Am not getting it is the dual core processor or single core processor…… I came to know that it is single core only… Is this right

  4. galaxy ace V/s micromax A100

    which is best..??

    • mmx a 100 is best because this smartphone is with ICS,but in micromax yo have to suffer little with camera quality…processing with high games
the most important is this samsung earn atleast 3000 to 5000 on its phone ace…..but micromax not suffer from such taxes….so it is cheaper

  5. Does A100 contain wifi hotspot & 16M colours?

  6. i bought it around 2 days back.
pros: battery is legendary ,stands way longer than any android known to mankind.
web browsing: its real smooth, youtube videos are amazing.
sound:: tried some good headset in sennheiser, sony and philips and boy this phone packs a punch in the sound department.
os: stock ics is a beauty after dumb touchwiz on my note.

    cons:
    1. hd video playback is stuttering
    2. camera sucks as usual with micromax.especially the flash has no use. all night pics are black
    3. hd games are a no go.

    result:
its a poor mans note. which fares better than note in battery and web browsing but drags in lag and video playback and camera
micromax would have had a winner in this had it been a dual core .

    should i buy:
hell yeah …i really enjoyed the stock ics experience on a 5 inch beauty.

  7. Yestearday i brought the a100, the best mobile for 10000 range mobile, the display is very good, if ur buying galaxy s pl buy a100 we can satisty with thet

  8. Very bad hardware. My one got fried within hours of buying it. Started excessive heating while talking for only 10 mins. Few hours later just stopped working.

  9. I want to know about with camera, video playback and speed.
Wats wrong with camera ? How do the images look when transferred to computer ?
Video play back : Stuttering – Does this happen always ? I also saw somewhere that this phone only plays a certian resolution of videos plz confirm
Web browsing : Hows it for youtube and application that give real time updates like share price etc ?

    PLz reply !!

    • camera is average, greyish images with pixelation in zoom in …not watchable on pc. video will playback for mp4,avi etc but not hd 480p is the max. web browsing is cool and youtube videos play without a lag.
i returned the set after 2 issues, heating under video playback and no microphone…micromax service sucked and i had to travel 3 days with a broken leg to get my set exchanged. finally exchanged it with karbonn a18 which was a risk i took as i dint wanna trust micromax again. and it has not dissapointed me, i am a owner of samsungs note and wave and a18 comes close to them in responsiveness. hd videos play upto 720p. what more can i ask.. dint face a single issue till now, camera also looks way better than micromax but still not one u can rely on for detail….so for a budget android at 10k the a18 is legendary

  10. Speaker volume of this phone very very low. I am not sure if there is any way to increase the same. ‘Volume Boost’ did not improve speaker volume after rooting also.

  11. Hi fnds i want to purchase this phone… Plz give me suggestion is it good or not… If we get any prbm we can able to change???
