Users using WhatsApp on iOS 10 and iOS 11 will need to update to iOS 12 to continue using the messaging app.
Facebook-owned WhatsApp, one of the most popular instant messaging apps, will stop working on iPhones running iOS 10 and iOS 11 such as the iPhone 5 and iPhone 5C later this year. According to a screenshot shared by WABetaInfo and an article posted by the WhatsApp Help Center, only iOS 12 and newer versions will support WhatsApp. Let us know how WhatsApp will stop working on iPhones.
WhatsApp will not work on these versions of iPhone
Users using WhatsApp on iOS 10 and iOS 11 will need to update to iOS 12 to continue using the messaging app. You can still continue to use WhatsApp on the iPhone 5S, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6s, but you need to update to the latest version of iOS. If you are an Android user, then your phone needs to be running OS 4.1 or the latest to use WhatsApp.
In the coming time, WhatsApp may also be closed on these iPhones
But now WhatsApp will not be available on iPhone 5 and iPhone 5C as iOS 12 is not compatible with these iPhones. WWDC 2022 is coming a few weeks later and we are expecting Apple iOS 16 to be announced during this time. Rumors suggest that iOS 16 will stop working on the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus.
New features will come on WhatsApp
Instant messaging app WhatsApp has released new features and is working on some updates. The instant messaging app has rolled out emoji reactions and is working on rich link previews for status updates. The rich link feature will give more information about the link to the viewers which will provide a lot of convenience to the users. Some features are currently being tested on the iOS app. The update is expected to be available for Android and desktop users in the coming updates as well.
WhatsApp on iPhone requires iOS 12
Almost a year later, WhatsApp will make another significant change to its minimum requirements. The chat apps will not support iOS 10 or iOS 11 starting on October 24th.
WaBetaInfo, a prominent WhatsApp leaker, revealed the notification that will appear on devices running iOS versions older than iOS 12. A WhatsApp support document also notes the iOS 12 requirement.
That means the iPhone 5 and iPhone 5c models that Apple released in September 2012 will no longer be able to run WhatsApp. But iPhone users on newer models who somehow never updated their devices to iOS 12 or later will also be temporarily affected.
