5 Reasons Business Tech is More Affordable Than Ever
Technology plays a critical role in helping modern businesses run smoothly and reach their full potential. In fact, there are only a select few businesses that can operate without technology. The vast majority of businesses, and all ambitious businesses, depend on technology for their success.
At many businesses, IT costs account for a sizable chunk of the company’s budget, and that’s a trend that’s expected to continue into the future. According to a report from Gartner, worldwide spend on IT will grow by nearly 10% this year.
Yet while technology-related expenses can be significant, businesses do get plenty of bang for their buck. Business tech has become increasingly affordable in recent years for many reasons, such as the ones that we’ll outline below.
Increased Competition
Back in the early days of advanced business technology, businesses often had to fork up a significant amount of cash to get a tool simply because there was only one brand offering the tech that they needed. That’s no longer the case. Today, increased competition means that businesses have a wide range of options when it comes to selecting the computers, scanners, and other machines they need to run their business efficiently. There are essentially no monopolies anymore, which means no brand can simply charge what it wants.
Third-Party Options
In the past, businesses often had no choice but to buy branded products from the manufacturer when they needed a replacement part or accessory. That’s no longer the case. Increased manufacturing capabilities have reduced the barrier to entry for brands wishing to enter new markets, and as a result, businesses have the option of buying quality replacement parts/accessories from third-party suppliers. This has allowed businesses to make significant savings — often fifty percent or more — on everything from printer ink to charging cables. In fact, by and large, businesses will find that there’s a third-party, much more affordable option for virtually any tech-related item that they need.
Online Sales
The rise of online sales, which allows businesses to buy their essential tech tools from anywhere in the world, has also resulted in more affordable costs. The eCommerce business model has meant that businesses can often cut out the middle man and buy directly, in the process cutting out the fees that would have gone to paying overhead costs.
Pay What You Need Business Model
In the past, businesses often had to buy expensive software that all too often included features that they simply didn’t need. The SaaS business model allows businesses to mostly pick and choose the services and features they need, ensuring that they don’t spend any more money than necessary when growing their business.
Capable Machines
Finally, tech advancements have meant that even highly affordable tech tools such as smartphones and tablets are highly advanced. In many cases, they can do virtually everything that a full computer was capable of doing in the not-too-distant past. This means that businesses don’t necessarily have to buy a full-blown, all-powerful machine for every task. In many cases, a smartphone will suffice.
