Nearly two decades after its launch, World of Warcraft is still going strong. The MMORPG saw its latest expansion drop in April and is actively working on ridable dragons for an update in the near future. But before that happens, Blizzard is taking the long-running game mobile. The embattled game company announced via Twitter that it will host a live stream premiere event Tuesday, May 3rd at 10 am Pacific on Reveal.Blizzard.com.
“The Warcraft universe continues to capture imaginations across the globe with enlightening experiences and immersive gameplay, that is the foundation for World of Warcraft and Hearthstone,” an official Blizzard blog post reads. “We are happy to present a new mobile game for the heroes of Azeroth looking to play on the go, and we can’t wait to get it into your hands.”
This isn’t the first time that a console franchise has expanded into mobile — Call of Duty and Fortnite have already launched their own iterations for phones and tablets. The official reveal will happen at 10 AM PT/ 1 PM ET. There’s not much more to go on than that, but the blog post announcing the date of the reveal does feature a never-before-seen image: a logo of a gear and lightning bolt.
Warcraft-based mobile game
Blizzard just announced that Diablo Immortal, its miniature action RPG, will come to PC in open beta in early June. That game takes most of what makes Diablo Diablo and squeezes it into a mobile-friendly format, while also adding things like more involved multiplayer and progression systems than even Diablo 3. The game will be free-to-play and online-only, and according to the Diablo team, it will have new characters, storylines, and additional content for a “constantly evolving experience”.
There is no other info available on the game, so the exact premise for the game hasn’t been confirmed. Having said that, it’s probably not a mobile version of World of Warcraft. Instead, many believe that it would be a mobile port of one of the classic Warcraft PC games. It could either be the first Warcraft game, or a mobile port of the remastered Warcraft III: Reforged.
