OpenAI, the artificial intelligence powerhouse backed by Microsoft, has launched GPT-4.5, calling it the most powerful and sophisticated chatbot model it has ever created. According to the company, this latest AI upgrade is designed to make conversations feel even more natural, better understand user intent, and respond with improved emotional intelligence.
Currently, GPT-4.5 is available as a research preview for ChatGPT Pro users and developers worldwide, giving them an early look at its enhanced capabilities.
What’s New in GPT-4.5?
OpenAI says GPT-4.5 takes everything that made GPT-4o great and expands on it. Unlike its predecessor, which was heavily optimized for STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) reasoning, GPT-4.5 is designed to be a more versatile and well-rounded model that excels in various fields.
To achieve this, OpenAI has used a mix of new training techniques alongside traditional methods like supervised fine-tuning (SFT) and reinforcement learning from human feedback (RLHF)—the same approach that helped shape GPT-4o.
GPT-4.5: Smarter, More Intuitive, and Ready to Assist
OpenAI has fine-tuned GPT-4.5 to be more adaptable and intuitive by training it with insights from smaller models. This approach has improved its ability to understand context, recognize nuances, and align more naturally with user intent—making conversations feel smoother and more human-like.
Unlike OpenAI’s reasoning-focused models, GPT-4.5 doesn’t “pause to think” before responding. Instead, it thrives on interpreting subtle cues and demonstrating emotional intelligence, making it a great fit for tasks like writing, design, programming, and problem-solving. OpenAI is still exploring the full potential of GPT-4.5 and believes it could unlock new, unexpected applications.
Enhanced Safety and Reliability
When it comes to safety, OpenAI’s internal tests confirm that GPT-4.5 doesn’t introduce new risks compared to previous models. It has also been designed to reduce hallucinations and deliver more accurate, trustworthy responses across a wide range of topics.
Where and When Can You Use GPT-4.5?
GPT-4.5 is currently available to ChatGPT Pro users on the web, mobile, and desktop through the model picker. Next week, Plus and Team users will gain access, followed by Enterprise and Education users the week after.
Key features like Search, Canvas, and file uploads remain available with GPT-4.5, but multimodal capabilities—such as Voice Mode, video, and screen sharing—are still in development and not yet supported in ChatGPT.
With its expanded capabilities and improved user experience, GPT-4.5 is shaping up to be OpenAI’s most refined and versatile AI model yet.
