How to make calls via Gmail

Alphabet-owned Google’s email service Gmail has over 2 billion users worldwide and the number is just growing. Over the past few years, and especially since the COVID-19 became a pandemic, Google has developed a range of smart features on Gmail. Google has now made the calling feature an integral part of Google Workspace. Although the feature was previously available on Google Hangouts as well but now the accessibility part has been heavily worked upon by Google. In the latest version of Gmail, a user can make calls from any device, be it a laptop, an Android, or an iOS smartphone.

From Android and iPhone

  • If you want to make a call through Gmail on your Android or iPhone, then it is very easy.
  • First of all open the Gmail app.
  • In this, click on the Meet button given in the taskbar.
  • Now click on the New Meeting option. Here you will see three options. The first will be Instant Meeting, the second will be Share the Meeting link and the third will be Schedule one in Google Calendar.
  • If you want to start the meeting immediately, then click on the Share the meeting link and send it to the person you want to talk to.
  • Now the call will start as soon as they click on the link to whom you have sent the link.
  • If you want, you can also call through Chat Space. For this, you have to first click on the chat button.
  • Now you will see the + icon here, click on it.
  • Now click on the ID of the person whom you want to call.
  • As soon as its tab opens, you will see the option of call, video call. If you want, you can call from here.
  • Apart from this, you can also call them by clicking on the + icon next to the chatbox. Here you will again see the option of meeting. By clicking Meet, you have to generate the link and send it to them.
  • After this, both can join the call by clicking on this link.

Gmail calls on PC

  • Open your Gmail through your web browser.
  • Through the left sidebar, scroll down to the section appearing as “Meet” and then click on “New Meeting”.
  • You will see a new window popping up with an invitational link.
  • You can either send the link via email to your caller or copy this link to share via text.
  • Once your caller receives the link then click on the “Join Now” button and wait for your caller to join via the same link.
  • Now you both are on the same call and start interacting with each other.
