Apple is going to roll out iOS 16.1 on the Auspicious day of Diwali. This iOS 16.1 updates will many new features, including ‘Live Activities’, ‘Clean Energy Charging’, and more. The update will be available to iPhone 8 or newer devices from October 24.

iOS 16.1 includes at least eight new features for iPhone users, such as iCloud Shared Photo Library and Live Activities support in third-party apps on the App Store, along with several bug fixes. Below, we have recapped everything new in iOS 16.1 update:

New Features of iOS 16 Update

1)Live Activities

iOS 16.1 expands Live Activities to third-party apps in the App Store. The feature allows iPhone users to stay on top of real-time events. It includes a sports game or a food delivery order, right on the Lock Screen or in Dynamic Island. Live Activities appear at the bottom of the Lock Screen on iPhone 13 models and earlier,

2) Battery Percentage Indicator

After receiving a fair amount of criticism in the initial release of iOS 16, Apple has tweaked the behavior of the new battery percentage indicator in the status bar. Now the battery icon will gradually fill and empty depending on how much juice is left even with the percentage showing. In iOS 16.0 the icon stayed full until it dipped below 20 percent.

3) iCloud Shared Photo Library

iCloud Shared Photo Library is now back. It will be available in iOS and iPadOS 16.1 and macOS Ventura. This feature will make it easier for you to share photos with your family members or friends in the Photos app. You can add up to five other people to add, edit, or remove photos in a shared library accessible via iCloud.

4) Battery Percentage on more Phones

Battery Percentage Indicator features were limited to a few iPhones. The iPhone XR, iPhone 11, iPhone 12 mini, and iPhone 13 mini users did not get this feature. With iOS 16.1, it brings Battery Indicator to all the devices

5) Clean Energy Charging

iOS 16.1 rolls out a new Clean Energy Charging feature. The aim is to decrease the carbon footprint of the iPhone by optimizing charging times for when the grid is using cleaner energy sources. The feature is available in the U.S. only.

6) Dynamic Island Outline

iPhone 16.1 brings a new grey border around Dynamic Island when the phone is locked or the Dynamic Island is in use.

7) Apple Fitness+

Apple Fitness+ app is now available to all iPhone users. The best part is that you don’t require an Apple Watch to check heart rate and calories burned during a workout. The app features a library of over 3,000 workout and meditation videos, with new content added weekly

8) Matter Accessories

iOS 16.1 includes support for Matter, an upcoming connectivity standard that will enable compatible smart home accessories to work together seamlessly across multiple platforms. It includes Apple’s HomeKit, Amazon’s Alexa, and Google’s Home.
