Netflix ad-supported plan announced: price, how it will work, regions and more

Tech giant Netflix is all set to bring Ads supported cheaper Subscription Plans for their customers. Netflix has confirmed that its Ads Supported plan will be going to roll out the Next Month. According to the developer, Steve Mose, the subscription would be called ‘Netflix with ads’ and this will not allow subscribers to watch content offline. What this means is that customers subscribing to this cheaper plan will not able to download movies & TV shows locally to watch later.

This is a piece of disheartening news as Offline Viewing is very popular among the youth. Teenagers prefer Offline Watching as it saves battery.

Netflix releases the statement:

“We’re confident that with Netflix starting at $6.99 a month, we now have a price for every fan. While it’s still very early days, we’re pleased with the interest from both consumers and advertisers – and couldn’t be more excited about what’s ahead.”

Netflix finally launches cheaper Subscription Plan with Ads

Moser also highlights that “there will be a setup experience for users of the new Netflix with ads plan“. But the exact information remains unclear. The company mentions that the platform is bringing this cheaper plan after losing 2,00,000 paid subscribers.

Netflix says that these ads will stream for 4 to 5 minutes per hour on average. This new plan will offer video quality up to 720p/HD. These ads will be streamed for 15 or 30 seconds during films and shows.

This plan is priced at $6.99 (approx Rs 575) per month. Along with the “Basic with Ads”, the other plans that the company already offers are ad-free: Basic, Standard, and Premium plans. Netflix has assured that the ad-free plans will remain unaffected.

The new “Basic with Ads” will be going launched in 12 countries in the beginning. The plan will be going to launch in November. These regions include Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Spain, the UK, and the US. The company, in its blog post, said that it will not affect the current plans.
