Highlights:

  • Netflix Launches Play Something, Fast Laughs Features for its Android App.
  • The feature has gone live for the TV app and Android devices but iOS users will have to wait a while.
  • Netflix is also bringing a new download tool called Downloads for You to iOS devices soon.

Netflix is rolling out two of its latest features on Android devices. Fast Laughs cycles through various clips from comedy shows and movies in a TikTok-style fashion. Play Something shuffles between movies and shows you might be interested in watching. Fast Laughs is a TikTok-style feature that shows clips from various comedies found on the platform. On Android, Fast Laughs will be accessible from the bottom navigation bar with a dedicated tab.

Lastly, Netflix said Monday that it’s bringing its Downloads for You tool to iOS in the coming month. Originally launched earlier this year on Android, the opt-in feature automatically downloads stuff to watch offline based on your viewing history.

Play Something lets Netflix decide on what you are going to watch next. You press the button and let Netflix take care of recommendations based on your viewing history. This was designed especially for users, who can’t seem to make up their mind on what to watch.

Fast Laughs is a TikTok-style feature that shows clips from various comedies found on the platform, from Disenchantment to The Happy Place and more. Netflix sees it as a way to discover funny new shows, movies, and comedy specials that you may not have been aware of. On Android, Fast Laughs will be accessible from the bottom navigation bar with a dedicated tab. The Play Something button will float along the bottom left corner with a shuffle icon or following the 16th row.

The Netflix officials said in a statement:

“Sometimes you just want to open Netflix and dive right into a new story. That’s why we’ve created Play Something, an exciting new way to kick back and watch. When you hit the ‘Play Something’ button, you’ll be instantly met with a series or film we know you’ll love based on what you’ve watched before.”

This is ultimately a big update for Android users who primarily watch content on their tablet or phone, but nothing is changing on other platforms.
