Indian Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi officially launched the commercial 5G services in India yesterday at the inauguration of the 6th edition of India Mobile Congress (IMC) held in New Delhi, which will conclude on October 4.

On the inaugural day of IMC 2022, Modi visited the exhibitions of India’s leading telecom companies — Reliance Jio, Airtel, and Vodafone Idea — to understand how 5G will bolster the indigenous development as a part of the country’s digitization process. Leaders of all three telecom companies announced that 5G will be available in select cities from today.

Reliance Jio 5G Launch

Reliance Jio will roll out its true 5G services in 4 cities by Diwali. These cities include Kolkata, Delhi, Mumbai, and Chennai. Mukesh Ambani, chairman of Reliance Industries, announced its 5G network will be available in Varanasi and a village near Ahmedabad from today. As per the ministry, 13 cities will get 5G first. These cities include Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chandigarh, Gandhinagar, Gurugram, Hyderabad, Jamnagar, Lucknow, and Pune.

“Today, I want to reiterate Jio’s commitment to delivering 5G to every town, every taluka, and every tehsil of our country by December 2023. Most of Jio’s 5G is developed in India. Hence carries the stamp of Atmanirbhar Bharat,” said Mukesh Ambani at IMC 2022.

Airtel Claims that 5G will reach each home by March 2024

Airtel also announced the launch of its 5G services. CEO Sunil Mittal said that 8 cities, including Delhi, Varanasi, Mumbai, and Bangalore will get 5G services starting today. Mittal said that Airtel 5G will reach every home by March 2024.

As far as the data speed is concerned, 5G is said to be 20 times faster than 4G speed once the pan India rollout is complete. Once 5G services are live in your area, your phone will be able to connect to it. But for that, you will need to have a 5G-enabled smartphone.
