- The RedRail app could contribute 10-15 percent in gross ticketing value.
- The company cites a steady increase in digital adoption.
- RedBus says it has gained leadership in the intercity bus segment.
One of the largest intercity bus ticketing platforms, redBus, has been expanding its service offerings in India. Back in 2020, the company launched its own car and bike pooling service in the Delhi NCR region. Now, the MakeMyTrip-owned company has released a dedicated online rail ticketing app called redRail. Here are the details.
Customers can check PNR confirmation status as well as live train movement on the redRail App in addition to booking tickets. Whenever there is a notable change in the status of the ticket confirmation, the app will alert the user. The company said that it plans to soon launch the app in leading Indian languages to help users book travel in their native languages.
RedBus Releases redRail Train Ticketing App
The launch of the standalone RedRail app comes at an opportune time as there has been a steady increase in digital adoption across both bus as well as train segments over the last two years. The online train ticket booking market, with nearly a million daily transactions across the country, offers a huge opportunity.
The app has been tested to work smoothly and book IRCTC train tickets even in locations with limited internet speed, on devices with minimal memory configuration, as well as on phones running outdated versions of Android, for example. RedRail, which is presently only available in English, will soon be available in a number of Indian languages, allowing customers to book trips in their own language. Besides UPI payments, the app lets you pay with credit cards, debit cards, and net banking, as well as with other types of payment.
“redRail is a rail ticket booking service launched by redBus, in collaboration with IRCTC (Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation), as the authorized partner. All of IRCTC’s scheduled train services, which include about nine million daily seats, are available for booking on the redRail app,” Prakash Sangam, CEO of redBus said in a statement.
The newly launched app supports various payment modes including UPI, credit cards, debit cards, and net banking. It is currently available on Android devices and will soon be launched for iOS as well. If you book your train tickets via redRail, you can avail 10 percent discount, up to ₹50, by using the promo code “LOVERAIL” and avoid paying any processing fees or payment gateway charges. The offer is applicable until April 20, 2022.
