A US intelligence agency said on Wednesday that its new spy satellite has been successfully launched into orbit on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket. The SpaceX rocket took off from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California at 12:27 pm local time on February 3. According to the information, after leaving the satellite named NROL-87 in orbit, the Falcon-9 rocket landed back on base. NROL-87 is reported to have been designed and operated by the NRO to support its overhead reconnaissance mission.

According to a news agency, NRO has given some more details about the satellite. It has been said that it will ‘give a detailed series of intelligence information on time.’ As a US Department of Defense, the NRO operates a large network of surveillance satellites. Its headquarter is near Washington in North Virginia. NROL-87 is the first satellite launched by NRO in the year 2022. This is the third time the agency has used a Falcon 9 rocket. NRO has launched 16 more satellites in the last two years.

Talk about the preparations for Elon Musk’s commercial space company SpaceX, then it is planned to launch 52 missions this year. If SpaceX is successful in this, then it will complete the most launches in a year. SpaceX is also in the role of a partner for the US space agency NASA, especially for NASA’s Human Spaceflight Program. It has the responsibility of transporting astronauts and cargo to and from the International Space Station (ISS). SpaceX is also developing the Next Generation Rocket System to land astronauts on the Moon under NASA’s Artemis program. This rocket has been named Starship.

SpaceX mainly helps NASA’s programs, as well as this company from time to time, launches satellites for other companies, international customers, and the US Department of Defense. Although 52 launches are planned this year, most of them will be done for SpaceX. It is believed that these launches will be for Starlink’s satellite.

Starlink is also a part of SpaceX. It is working on bringing satellite internet to the world. The Starlink project would require SpaceX to launch thousands of small satellites into low-Earth orbit. SpaceX is regularly launching them in batches of 50-60 satellites.
