Valve finally announces the dates for its upcoming Steam sales as well as a change to the schedule that will see one major seasonal sale dropped and a new one added.
Starting in 2023, the Lunar New Year Sale, which usually takes place in January, will replace with the Spring Sale. The first of these will take place from March 16 to 23. “The addition of a Spring Sale was a popular request from our developer and publisher community,” Valve says in a blog post (opens in a new tab).
Valve normally had three seasonal sales up its sleeve — summer, winter, and autumn, the latter of which coincides with Halloween, putting a slew of horror games up on discount.
“It will allow us to create more space between our four major seasonal sales and provide more opportunities throughout the year for developers to expand and execute their discounting calendar.” Valve goes on to say that its Lunar New Year promotional event was “often much too close to the December holiday sale period”
Upcoming Steam sales date 2022–23
- Steam Autumn Sale 2022: November 22 to November 29
- Winter Sale 2022: December 22 to January 5, 2023
- Steam Spring Sale 2023: March 16 to March 23, 2023
As per Valve, the Lunar New Year sale was brought onto Steam back in 2016 to celebrate the influx of game developers and customers from Asian territories like “Hong Kong, Taiwan, China, and South Korea.” However, over the years, the company received feedback that the sale was often much too close to the December Christmas sale period. Valve believes that customers will be better served by increasing the waiting period between “big Steam-wide seasonal sales.”
When is the next Steam sale?
When is the next Steam Next Fest?
The Summer and Winter sales are the big ones. They tend to last two weeks (ish). Other sales like the Lunar New Year sale and Black Friday sale last about one week.
