The Kashmir Files movie download links being shared on WhatsApp may be fraud, warns police




Are you looking forward to the new Bollywood film that is creating buzz – The Kashmir Files? We suggest you be wary of clicking on any download links for the film, especially if sent on WhatsApp. Ranvijay Singh, the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, Noida has warned people against clicking on any links related to The Kashmir Files received on WhatsApp. Cyber hackers are sending WhatsApp links to download the film. Once the user clicks on this link, their phone information is compromised.

The recently released ‘The Kashmir Files’ movie is catching the attention of entire India and Vivek Agnihotri’s directorial is continuing to put strong numbers at the box office.‘The Kashmir Files is based on the exodus of the Kashmiri Pundits from the valley in the 1990s. The film features a stellar cast of actors, including Mithun Chakraborty, Anupam Kher, Pallavi Joshi, Darshan Kumaar, and Chinmay Mandlekar.

How ‘The Kashmir Files’ WhatsApp Scam Works?

The fraudsters will first send a malicious link to the victims on WhatsApp. This link will be sent alongside a message stating that users can download ‘The Kashmir Files’ movie for free by just clicking on this link. Once they visit the link, malware will be injected into their smartphones. Reportedly, this malware is claimed to hack their smartphone and make it possible for cybercriminals to steal the bank details of the users.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Noida) Ranvijay Singh said, three people approached the police within a period of 24 hours from one police station with similar complaints of cyber fraud, in which they ended up losing a combined Rs 30 lakh. Furthermore, he asserted that there has been no specific case here yet in which the movie’s name has been used but there are inputs regarding such methodology being used by conmen for hacking into people’s phones or duping them of money.  “There could be situations in which a phone user does not know that their device has been hacked from a remote location but is alarmed only when they learn that their bank accounts have been emptied.”

Keep these things in mind

If you also have such a link or you click on the link by mistake, then you still need to take some precautions. With this, you can avoid big fraud. Below we are telling what things you should keep in mind.

  • The first thing is that if any link comes about this film, then avoid clicking on it. Watch the film only by visiting the hall or multiplex.
  • Inform the police or cyber cell if you get the link.
  • Inform your friends and family about such cases as much as possible. Also, give it to acquaintances so that they too do not fall prey to fraud.
  • Keep the UPI app or banking app present in the phone secure. Use a strong password.
  • If you have become a victim of online fraud, report it immediately by calling 1930 or 155260.
