Android 12 is the 2021 update for Google’s Android operating system, building on 2020’s Android 11, which some phones still don’t have. But this is more than just an iterative update – Google describes it as the biggest design change in Android’s history, and it certainly shows.
Google’s dynamic color theming, which lets you more easily match your phone’s color palette with your wallpaper, is one of the standout features of Android 12, and it will be available on more devices from top Android phone makers “soon,” the company announced in a post. Devices from Samsung, OnePlus, Oppo, Vivo, Realme, Xiaomi, Tecno, “and more” will all be getting the feature.
The edition will enable faster app launches on eligible smartphones. With a new API in place, Google says that developers can make their app’s launch 30 percent faster than before. Apps won’t show a black screen before they load up. Android 12 has a Wi-Fi sharing mode similar to iOS, which would easily share Wi-Fi passwords with other nearby people.
It will automatically save battery life and storage by hibernating apps that haven’t been used for extended periods of time which is helpful for devices with limited storage capacity. Meanwhile, the updated Files Go app will allow you to recover files within 30 days. The guest user experience will be available directly on the lock screen. Google is also adding a new privacy dashboard. It will give you a snapshot of which apps are accessing particular types of sensitive data.
If you own a Google Pixel phone, then you can try out the feature right away. Just visit the Settings app on your device and tap on Wallpaper & Style. You can then select a colorful wallpaper, after which a themed palette will pop up. You can choose any theme that you think will look good. Google has stated that it will take some time to roll out the feature across all Android devices.
