Twitter Testing Cricket Tab for Indian Users on Android Amid IPL 2022

Celebrating the ongoing IPL season, Twitter on Tuesday announces that it is testing a dedicated Cricket tab. This tab will start appearing on the Explore page in India. The new tab comes as a standalone place from where cricket fans will be able to catch all the latest updates about their favorite matches, teams, and players.

The microblogging platform will be rolling out the experiment to some Twitter users on Android. According to a Twitter survey, at least 75 percent of people on Twitter in India identify as cricket fans and 58 percent play the sport. Between January 2021 to  January 2022, about 4.4 million Indians on the microblogging platform shared 96.2 million tweets about cricket.

It also features video highlights, a live cricket scoreboard, and exclusive Twitter-first content. Twitter also introduces custom IPL team emojis in English and seven Indic languages to increase its engagement among cricket lovers and give them another reason to talk about their favorite teams using the microblogging network.

IPL 2022: Twitter Cricket Tab

The tab will include an Events page that will appear “at the top of the cricket tab” and will show all the most recent Tweets and updates of IPL 2022. The cricket tab and the Events page will also show a live scoreboard as well. Additionally, the users will also get access to content widgets like top players, and team rankings via the Interactive team widgets on the tab.

Twitter is teaming up with broadcast and creator partners to bring customised video content including in-match moments, highlights, and off-field action. Twitter has tied up with the following creators

It partners with Star Sports for expert AMA sessions, franchise content, and in-studio action in five languages, namely English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada. The platform will also feature panel discussions, match previews, and reviews via Cricbuzz and pre-and post-match shows and interviews from sports journalist Boria Majumdar.

Cricket fans on Twitter can also follow dedicated Twitter Lists of their favorite teams and players to get subject-related tweets on a separate timeline. Twitter will also provide push notifications around key moments during matches to let you stay updated.

Additionally, Twitter created custom team emojis in English and seven Indic languages, namely Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Punjabi, Tamil, and Telugu to let fans tweet about their favorite teams during IPL 2022.
