WhatsApp is rolling out a new update to allow users to play voice messages outside the chatbox. Currently, users can play a voice note and increase the playback speed; however, it pauses automatically once you leave the chat. The new option will allow users to listen to the audio when the app is minimize. The feature is currently available on Apple devices. There is no information on when the update will be available for Android devices as well.

To get the new feature, users will have to update their phone to the latest WhatsApp for iOS v22.4.75 version. This feature would make it simpler for users to reply to different chats while still listening to the voice note. Android, as well as web users, are yet to get this feature.

When you listen to a voice note outside a chat, the voice note appears on the top of the chat window. You also get the option of pausing the voice note while replying to another text. There is a cross sign provided on the top right, which will let you remove the voice note from the chat window once you are done listening to the voice note.

The feature will be a useful addition to those who often deal with longer voice notes, who would previously have to stay on one screen as they listen through the entire voices note, unable to do anything else without stopping the playback.

Meanwhile, the Meta-owned WhatsApp is reportedly working on a WhatsApp community feature to give group admins more control. Inspired by Discord Community, WhatsApp Community will essentially be a group of multiple small WhatsApp groups with different topics/interests. Community admins can broadcast messages to all users.

Additionally, users can add members to the community manually or can send invite links. Apart from WhatsApp Community, the platform is also adding a new interface for a voice for select members. The new interface started rolling out the beta version of the platform for Android. The new update essentially adds waveforms to help users identify who’s speaking during a group chat that could be quite useful among a large group of people.
