WhatsApp Spotted Increasing Restriction for Forwarded Messages, Testing Communities Tab for iOS Users

WhatsApp is working on a new limit for sharing forwarded messages in group chats to restrict users from spreading fake news and misinformation. It is rolling out a new feature that will somehow help to stop the spam messages flouting in groups. The new development is currently in beta testing on both Android and iOS. The aim of this new development is to prevent users from sending forwarded messages to not more than one group chat at a time.

Separately, WhatsApp is also going to introduce a dedicated Communities tab that will replace the existing Camera tab on iOS. The messaging app is also testing an updated camera interface for Android users.

It is important to note that the limit will only apply to messages that have already been forwarded by users. This means it will not affect the messages you send on the app.

WhatsApp is going to limit for sharing of forwarded messages in group chats

According to a report by WhatsApp beta tracker WABetaInfo, WhatsApp for iOS beta version carries the limitation that prevents users from sending forwarded messages to not more than one group chat at a time. The app shows a notice that suggests the limitation

Forwarded messages are often considered a primary source to spread fake news and misinformation. The new update is, therefore, likely to help put a limit on those ends.

This new WhatsApp feature will limit forwarding to just one WhatsApp group. The new limitation prevents users to send forwarded messages to more than one group chat.

“It is no longer possible to forward forwarded messages to more than one group chat at a time and this is an additional way to limit spam and misinformation.”

Now, You can only send Forwarded messages to one group chat. If a user wants to forward such messages to more than one group, they will need to select the message and forward it again.

In July 2018, the Facebook-owned messenger introduces a restriction in India where users can only forward a message to a maximum of five separate chats at once. In January 2019, these restrictions extend globally.

This feature is not available yet because it is under development. This feature will release in a future update of the app.
