WhatsApp testing New Edit Button Feature, Could Launch it Soon

WhatsApp Edit Button

WhatsApp is working on a number of features and one of them is the edit button. This may come as a surprise for many users. The developers keep on adding new features to make the platform engaging. Recently, WhatsApp beta introduced a new feature that lets users sort messages by date and hide their online status. Now, a report by WABetaInfo suggests that the messaging platform might soon allow users to edit sent messages.

While it is still unclear as to how the feature might work, it is highly likely that WhatsApp will add an ‘edited’ label to the message, so the other person knows the message has been edited. So, if you are using an older version of the messaging platform, you could update the app, in which you will get an edited version of a message from a linked device from the recipient.

WhatsApp is working on a new Edit Button

According to the sources, the ability to edit sent messages is still under development. As part of the WhatsApp beta for Android update, the edit message functionality is not available to beta testers right now.

The report doesn’t reveal how this feature may work. But, WhatsApp might be planning to offer this feature to let people correct errors. Currently, people only have the option to delete messages in case any error is made and then re-write them. But, the issue is the app displays a tag saying, “this message was deleted,” which defeats the purpose of having this feature

The feature will arrive to the Users in the coming weeks

The new edit feature for messages has been spotted in the version of the WhatsApp Android beta update. The same is also expected to arrive on the iOS beta version in the near future.

Alike WhatsApp, Twitter is also testing the edit button feature and it is limited to select regions. The platform recently confirmed that it would give only five chances to edit a tweet, which should be enough for many to correct errors. In addition to this, Twitter revealed that edited tweets will appear with an icon, timestamp, and label to make it easier for people to understand if the original tweet has been modified. WhatsApp could do something similar.
