Facebook Gaming and Bandai Namco have officially launched Pac-Man Community, a new feature on the arcade classic. Pac-Man Community takes the classic gameplay and adds some interesting modern-day concepts. The Facebook Instant game is playable with up to three friends, working together to complete mazes, while also competing for the highest score.
Additionally, Facebook Gaming streamers can invite viewers to join them with Facebook’s new Play with Streamer feature. Furthermore, Facebook has introduced Facebook Interactives, a feature that allows viewers to participate in the game while watching the stream. With the new ‘Watch mode’, live stream viewers will see the 2D mazes through an isometric 3D view and can interact with games through powering up Pac-Man or the Ghosts.
Mark Zuckerberg posted about the new game on his Facebook page:
“Pac-Man is coming to Facebook Gaming,” he wrote. “You’ll be able to play this classic game with friends, watch creators play, and build your own mazes. Gaming is a big part of the metaverse, and I’m looking forward to seeing games like this get more interactive and immersive.”
Multiplayer maze madness
Pac-Man Community also features the Maze Creator tool, which allows players to create their own levels and challenges to play alongside pre-existing levels. Players can also access the classic version of Pac-Man as an easter egg in Pac-Man Community.
Players work together to try to survive the pesky ghosts, but they’ll also be competing for the highest score. You can make rooms to play with your friends, and Facebook Gaming streamers can invite viewers to join their game with Facebook’s Play with Streamer feature. Genvid Technologies developed the game using its cloud-based technology platform in partnership with Bandai Namco.
Pac-Man Community follows a broader trend of more social gaming, from Twitch streams toto the rise of last year. The Watch tab brings modern social features to a game that’s more than 40 years old. If you’re interested in trying Pac-Man Community, it’ll be available for free beginning Monday on desktop and mobile versions of the Facebook app. It will be exclusive to Facebook.
