Google is looking to connect to Taiwan using an undersea cable system

The Biden organization on Friday suggested Alphabet’s Google and Facebook parent Meta get authorization to utilize an undersea link framework to deal with developing Internet traffic with Asia. The organization encouraged the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to concede licenses for the organizations to send and get information on the current 8,000-mile Pacific Light Cable Network. The undersea fiber-optic link framework is associated with the United States, Taiwan, the Philippines, and Hong Kong.

Undersea links communicate essentially all the world’s Internet information traffic. Meta looked for consent to utilize the Philippines-to-United States segment, while Google has requested authorization to interface with Taiwan.

The organizations resolved to ensure the protection and security of Americans’ information, especially against China’s knowledge activities.
The arrangement by Google and Meta deserted a past proposition to utilize the network’s link to Hong Kong, which is constrained by Beijing. Numerous US government offices suggested hindering that arrangement in 2020.

The Justice Department said the public safety concurrences with Google and Meta were required given China’s “supported endeavors to get the delicate individual information of millions of US people.”

The Chinese Embassy in Washington and Google didn’t quickly remark.
Google said in 2020 it required the information associations to handle developing traffic between its server farms in Taiwan and the United States.

Google and Meta must conduct annual risk assessments to sensitive data

A Meta representative said the “link framework builds Internet limit” between the United States and the Philippines “to assist individuals with remaining associated and offer content.” The links are secure and information is ensured through cutting-edge encryption, it said.

Under the arrangements, Google and Meta should direct yearly evaluations of hazard to delicate information, and they must have the option to confine or stop information traffic on the links within 24 hours.

Around 300 subsea links structure the foundation of the Internet, conveying almost 100% of the world’s information traffic.
