Mission Gaganyaan: What will Indian astronauts eat in space. Know all details

India is working on its first manned space flight Gaganyaan. Three big institutions of the country ISRO, DRDO, and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited are engaged in fulfilling mission-related responsibilities. Covid-19 has also affected this project. It was targeted for the year 2021, but till now the mission has not been launched. This effort to send human

s to space is going on and the latest update related to this has revealed that 6 menus containing vegetarian and non-vegetarian food items are being prepared for the astronauts.

first human mission in space

The Financial Express has told in its report that the country’s first human mission in space will have a large variety of food. It is being prepared in a laboratory of the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) in Mysore. DRDO Chairman Dr. G Satheesh Reddy himself has confirmed this information and said that developing food consumption in zero gravity space is a new and unique challenge. Our scientists are enjoying this opportunity.

6 options will be available in the food

The report says that the crew members going on the mission will have all the options of food. It has come to the fore that six different menus have been prepared. These are expected to include light items like upma, poha, and idli for breakfast. Meat and veg biryani will be an option for lunch, while dinner can include items like chapatis, vegetables, and meat with gravy.

Sweet pudding offer!

The report suggests that the astronauts can be given sweet pudding or any other option. Apart from this, there will also be an option of many types of fruit juices and tea or coffee. As per reports, the food served to the astronauts is expected to be mildly spicy. However, extra sachets can be given to those who like spicy.

but will not get bread

It has been told in the report that this mission will be for a week, in which case the food packages will be semi-hydrated. That is, the crew members will have to heat the food by adding water to them. Because there is a fear of water falling in zero gravity, so water will have to be poured in a limited space in the food.

Still, more trials left

Dr. Reddy has informed us that the modified food products are ready for their second phase of evaluation. He says that the DRDO laboratory in Mysore has good experience in developing food for difficult situations. According to the information, this laboratory has done such tasks for soldiers stationed in Siachen Glacier, sailors living in submarines, and missions related to Antarctica.

The lab has already made space for food

The special thing is that DRDO’s Mysore Lab has already made food items for the space. According to the report, this lab had made special mango bars for Squadron Leader Rakesh Sharma, the first Indian to go to space. Rakesh Sharma reached space in 1984 aboard Russia’s Soyuz T-11.
