Paytm Tap to Pay

Digital payment company Paytm has started charging surcharges on mobile recharge through its platform. This surcharge charge can be anything between Rs 1 to Rs 6 depending on the recharge amount. This surcharge charge will be applicable to all Paytm mobile recharges. Users will have to pay surcharge charges whether they recharge through any payment mode like Paytm Wallet Balance, Unified Payments Interface (UPI) or bank credit-debit cards, etc.

Paytm’s biggest competitor PhonePe also started a pilot project

However, at this time it is not available for all users. Last year, Paytm’s biggest competitor PhonePe also started a pilot project to levy a surcharge on mobile recharge.

According to user reports available on Twitter, Paytm has started charging a surcharge as a convenience fee. Paytm started charging surcharges from some users at the end of March itself. But a sudden increase in the recent user reports showed that the surcharge has now been implemented for a large number of users.

However, the surcharge is still not applicable to all Paytm users. It is also to be noted that the new additional fee or surcharge will be applicable only for transactions above Rs 100.

However, select users who are considered part of the update will have to pay extra up to a maximum of Rs.6 only.

It is worth noting that in the year 2019, Paytm had also clarified through Twitter to clear some rumors. Paytm had then said in its statement that it would not charge any convenience or transaction fee from customers for using any payment mode such as card, UPI and wallet, etc.
