Telegram Is Going To Launch Its Premium Subscription Plan This Month: All Details

Telegram appears to be testing another way for the super popular messaging app to start bringing in revenue. Beta testers for Telegram’s iOS app noticed something new in version 8.7.2. The popular messaging app Telegram is working on a Premium subscription that adds new exclusive reactions and stickers but is only available on iOS for the time being. The CEO of the messaging app has confirmed that the Telegram Premium will be launched later in June. Durov said that Telegram is funded primarily by its users, not advertisers.
Currently, Telegram Premium does not exist. A report by The Verge highlights that users with Telegram TestFlight builds can send exploding-heart and flying ghost reactions. However, it appears that even the recipients of the premium stickers and emojis will need Telegram Premium to see them. So even if you send a ‘Telegram Free user’ a premium emoji they’ll get a prompt to subscribe to Telegram Premium and view the emoji.
Meanwhile, Telegram recently rolled out crypto payment capability, as per the company’s Telegram Open Network (TON) Foundation. Users can now download Telegram’s official wallet bot, which can allow them to buy cryptocurrencies, trade them, and send them to other wallets. In other news, Telegram has rolled out a series of new features to improve user experience and increase privacy including an auto-delete chat option, improved picture-in-picture settings, and an enhanced Bot configuration.
Talking about its new Telegram Premium plan, Pavel Durov said:
“After giving it some thought, we realized that the only way to let our most demanding fans get more while keeping our existing features free is to make those raised limits a paid option. That’s why this month we will introduce Telegram Premium, a subscription plan that allows anyone to acquire additional features, speed, and resources. It will also allow users to support Telegram and join the club that receives new features first.
He further stated that even users who don’t subscribe to Telegram Premium will get access to some of the features. Durov noted that users will be able to view extra-large documents, media, and stickers sent by Premium users, or tap to add Premium reactions already pinned to a message to react in the same way.
While we still don’t know what are the exact perks that Telegram Premium will offer over the regular app, Durov does mention the subscription plan to be one that “allows anyone to acquire additional features, speed, and resources.” Previous reports have suggested that the subscription will include exclusive animated stickers, emojis, and a larger file-sharing limit. Telegram Premium users will also be the first to receive new features coming to the platform.
