What is Magento migration, and how is it done

Magento 2 Vs. Magento

Magento 2 and Magento 1 have a few differences. One of the biggest promises that I think everybody is looking for is improvement in scalability and performance. Performance comes in many flavors and meanings, and being able to scale your Magento installation by separating database servers, etc., means that you can do more. So, for example, if you compare Magento 2 Magento 1, you can see that browsing the catalog just through the products, categories, etc.

You have a vastly better throughput with a benchmark with Magento 2 of close to 10 million views. That was done versus 500k views with Magento 1. When you look at checkout in orders, it’s almost doubled their performance. We could do twice as much, so we won’t translate that into numbers. If you take a ballpark of the user journey, let’s say five pages in the store, you can serve up to two million users in one hour, which is a considerable difference from 100,000 users with Magento 1 installations. The bottom line can go up to four and a half million dollars per hour when checking out.

What is Magento Migration

The migration of Magento from 1 to 2 is the transfer of database, design, extensions, and related stuff from Magento 1 to 2. Magento migration requires specific technical skills, which is not everyone’s cup of tea. Certified Magento developers and expert professionals are hired for the purpose of Magento migration. However, in this article, we have presented a few steps for your understanding of the process of Magento migration.

Magento Migration process

Set up Source Store and Target Store

You need to set up your source and target stores and select Magento 2 and source card types. You need to provide the soft store URL into the blank bar to finish. Once you’re done, a notification will appear on the screen. Now let’s move on to the target card setup. Select Magento as the target card type, next download the extension connector following the instruction. Repeat the same process as a source card setup. Once you’re done, a notification will appear on your screen.

Configure the migration

Now click next and proceed to the next step of the migration process. You need to select the entities you want to migrate at this step. Some service providers offer additional options here to extend your migration possibilities. However, you can map your language and order status in this section so that they will be displayed correspondingly in your target store. After you finish, you can click start freedom or migration or click on the skip demo migration button to perform complete migration immediately. While the data is being transferred, it’s entirely safe to close the browser window or shut down your pc.

Run migration to Magento

You will receive an email from the system when the process is complete. Once the migration is done, click on the check result button to see if everything has been transferred correctly.
